Celebrating Father Figures

Every year, on the third Sunday of June, people in North America gather to recognize the importance of their fathers and father figures.

What is a father figure?

A father figure is someone who plays a paternal role in a person’s life, providing guidance, support, and care. This person doesn’t necessarily have to be a biological father; they can be a mentor, guardian, teacher, or any male role model who offers emotional and moral support. Father figures often help shape a person’s values, beliefs, and behaviors through their influence and example.

Why is it important to have a father figure?

Being a good father figure is more than a title; it’s about being a positive and supportive presence in someone’s life. Father figures can make an impact in so many valuable ways:

  • Providing a sense of security and stability
  • Demonstrating positive behaviors, values, and life skills
  • Offering guidance and support to those undergoing important life events
  • Providing companionship

Often, it’s the small, everyday actions that have the biggest effect.

Providing support to our vulnerable community members has a similarly positive impact. When you support local community charities such as Good Shepherd by donating your time, money, or items in need, you are making a commitment to positively affect those most receptive to, and in need of, your support.
