Easter Hope

Easter is a season of hope. It invites us to reflect on renewal, restoration, and the promise of new life, and new beginnings. At Good Shepherd Ministries, Easter also calls us to reflect on how we live out our values each day—especially our value of responsibility. Following in the footsteps of St. John of God we eagerly assume a duty of care for those who use our services, such as the homeless and vulnerable members of our community. This sense of responsibility guides how we steward resources, support the community, and create programs that uphold dignity and respect. This work is shared by coworkers, volunteers, donors, and partners—each accepting responsibility for caring for our neighbours.

Through this shared stewardship we can help people like Clarence. A former client of our DARE program, Clarence was provided with the support that he needed to begin the path towards recovery and a better life.

For Clarence, giving back to the community is an essential component to his sobriety:

“I try to give back what they gave to me. I’m doing a lot of service for other people. That’s the best thing in my life now. I want to give back. People helped me out. This year, I’m helping other people.”

Easter provides the hope that healing, transformation, and lasting change is possible. As we celebrate Easter, we give thanks for everyone who lives out this commitment each day and helps carry forward a message of hope through action.

In this season of renewal, we ask you to consider the words of St. John of God:

“Labour with stopping,

Do all the good works you can,

While you still have the time.”
