Food insecurity is a significant issue in Toronto, affecting many households. Approximately one in four households in the city experienced food insecurity in 2023*. This means they lack access to affordable, sufficient, safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food.

Several factors contribute to this problem, including rising housing costs, food inflation, and stagnating wages. As a result, more people are turning to food banks for assistance. In fact, one in ten people in Toronto now rely on food banks, which is double the number from the previous year.
Efforts to address food insecurity include various community programs and initiatives aimed at providing support and resources to those in need. However, the issue remains a pressing concern that requires ongoing attention and action.
