Suffering through the long hot summer

Summer has officially arrived!

What does this most sizzling of seasons mean to you?

Ice Cream, cool drinks, A/C on full to cope with the heat?

For people struggling with homelessness, summer can mean sunburn, heatstroke, and dehydration. It can mean breathing difficulties. People trapped on the streets can’t escape the hot, dirty, smog-filled air.

Summer can be an uncomfortable and downright dangerous time for those who don’t have a home to call their own.

But what can you do to make a difference? What can make the summer better for everyone in our community?

There’s a great way to help people who can’t escape the heat. Grab a case of bottled water next time it’s on sale, and drop it off at 412 Queen St. East. Good Shepherd distributes more than 700 bottles of water every single day. With each bottle you donate, you give a cool drink to someone in need. (If bottled water isn’t your thing, donating sunscreen is also a big help!)

No time to deliver water downtown? You can donate online right here! Good Shepherd buys in bulk so your donated dollars go a long way – and summer gets better for you and for the homeless.
