Honouring Service with Support: Good Shepherd Ministries and the Homeless Veterans Program

At 11am on Remembrance Day, Canadians across the country pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served in the armed forces. On this solemn day we wear poppies, attend ceremonies, and share stories of courage and resilience.

At Good Shepherd Ministries, remembrance is an active commitment. Through our Homeless Veterans Program, we provide vital support to Veterans who are experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, isolation, and more.

The Hidden Struggle of Homeless Veterans

Many Veterans face unique challenges after their service is finished—mental health issues, trauma, addiction, and difficulty reintegrating into civilian life. These struggles can lead to housing instability and homelessness. Good Shepherd Ministries recognizes this and through our Homeless Veterans Program we offer tailored services to help them rebuilt their lives.

The Veterans program provides:

Eric’s Recovery – A Hopeful Future

Eric, a former vehicle technician in the Canadian Army, faced deportation, homelessness, and addiction after a series of personal and legal challenges. After years of cycling through shelters and detox programs, he found stability through Good Shepherd’s DARE program. With structure, support, and compassion, Eric began to heal, reconnect with his children, and reclaim his life. Read Eric’s full story here

Remembrance in Action

On November 11th, we will remember. Remembrance is more than a reflection of the past—it’s a call to action in the present. Programs that support our Veterans is a way we can honor through meaningful action.

Let us honour our Veterans—not only for their selfless service, but for who they are today.
