Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated by many people all over the world. It is an occasion to express gratitude and give thanks for the blessings and good things in one’s life. While the specific traditions may vary slightly between countries, the core meaning of Thanksgiving remains the same: a celebration of gratitude and appreciation.
Good Shepherd celebrates the holiday by opening its doors to people who are hungry and in need of compassion and companionship.
In 2023 we celebrated our first in-person holiday meal since the start of the pandemic, and over the course of the day, we served nearly 1,500 meals. This was by no means a small undertaking, and preparations began weeks in advance. (Click here to see the event)
Each of those meals had many components – veggies, buns, dessert, and most importantly TURKEY! All of which had to be sourced – some of which came through the generosity of donors, and some of which had to be purchased.
Our 2024 Thanksgiving celebration will be held at our Shelter (412 Queen St. E. Toronto) on Monday, October 14h, from 12-2:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.
To make it a truly memorable event for all in attendance we need help, YOUR help. As you purchase ingredients for your own holiday meal, consider purchasing a few extras for ours, we have 1,500 plates to fill, and every bit helps. By organizing a food drive, you can not only help us at Thanksgiving but throughout the year.
If you are unable to organize an event, you can also volunteer or donate funds to help purchase items in bulk. Donate funds here.
We wish you and your loved ones all the best this holiday season and hope that your celebration will be as memorable as our own.
Please make a generous donation.
“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
