Good Shepherd Medical Clinic Expansion
On October 2, Good Shepherd was honoured to welcome His Eminence Francis Cardinal Leo, Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap and members of the Canadian Association of the Order of Malta, and our own Hospitaller Order of St. John of God Brothers, along with benefactors & distinguished guests for the blessing and the opening ceremony for our newly expanded medical clinic. The clinic is the result of a collaboration between the Order of Malta and Good Shepherd Ministries.
The event included a tour of Good Shepherd Centre, including the clinic, Mass at St. Paul’s Basilica, and a reception. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of so many, the clinic is now ready to provide highly needed expanded health care services to those in need.
Caring for Health, Growing for the Future
For decades, Good Shepherd Ministries has provided healthcare to people who might otherwise struggle to access it. In the 1990s, partner nurses worked out of the Good Shepherd Centre, while social workers and a nurse helped clients navigate access to health care and other services. The clinic took an important step forward in 2002 by hiring its first full-time Health Care Coordinator (RN), laying the foundation for the comprehensive health care offered today.
Today, in collaboration with our partners, the Medical Clinic provides low-barrier healthcare including nursing, Primary Care, Psychiatric Care, Foot Care, Dental Care, Vaccinations, and more, for people experiencing homelessness and others facing complex challenges. All of this happens while at the same time addressing social determinants of health, including poverty and housing.
In 2025, Good Shepherd and its healthcare partners delivered 1,137 nursing care visits, 442 family doctor visits, 442 mental health and addiction visits, 132 footcare visits, and 115 vaccinations.
As the Medical Clinic expands into a larger space with additional exam rooms, even more patients will be able to access the care they need. This growth reflects Good Shepherd’s ongoing commitment to meeting people where they are, providing compassionate care, and helping individuals move from crisis toward stability.
